Tessa, also known as “Voldemort,” is an extraordinary young girl who was born without a nose due to a rare condition known as complete congenital arhinia. Her exceptional appearance tells a powerful story of strength and challenges us to redefine our understanding of true uniqueness.
Arhinia is a rare condition in which the nose does not develop in the womb, resulting in its absence at birth. This means that Tessa not only lacks a visible nose but also the ability to detect smells through the olfactory system. Despite these challenges, Tessa approaches life with remarkable enthusiasm, undeterred by her condition.
Her parents, Grainne and Nathan Evans, learned about their unborn daughter’s condition during a five-month ultrasound. Although initially shocked, they were determined to provide Tessa with the best care and support throughout her life. Following her birth, Tessa required immediate medical attention, including a tracheotomy to aid in breathing. At eleven months old, she also underwent cataract surgery.
