In Ibiza, Lionel Messi’s $11 million home was vandalized with red and white paint. It is known that Messi, along with his wife and three children, regularly visits the property to relax on the picturesque island. It has now been revealed that eco-activists were responsible for the damage. The same group of activists had previously defaced an expensive yacht owned by Kim Kardashian’s mother.
According to foreign media, the property of the famous athlete was targeted by a group of climate activists from Futuro Vegetal. Several members of the movement entered the backyard of the house and generously splashed it with red and white paint. The activists also displayed a banner reading: “Help the planet – eat the rich – abolish the police.”
Futuro Vegetal also stated: “In 2019, the richest 1% of the world’s population generated as many carbon emissions as the poorest two-thirds of humanity, despite the fact that the most vulnerable communities are suffering the worst consequences of the crisis.”
According to Forbes, Messi’s net worth is $600 million, and he purchased his stunning mansion on the island for €11 million. The reason this particular house became a target for the eco-activists is that they consider the construction of the mansion illegal. They claim that Messi did not have the completion certificate, which should have been issued by the San José city council. On social media, Futuro Vegetal noted that “institutions are serving a small ruling class and do not represent the will of the people.”
It should be noted that the notorious Spanish eco-activist group Futuro Vegetal is known for damaging the property of wealthy individuals. The group has no leader and is composed mainly of scientists and lawyers. Their actions are often considered vandalism, and the group is regarded as criminal. As for Messi’s house, the footballer has not yet commented on the incident.
