A couple take a selfie after surviving a plane crash

Accidents and tragedies are not just unfortunate events from which we can learn important lessons: never take anything for granted. Life is precious and there is only one, so let’s learn to make the most of every moment to be happy before it’s too late. Plane crashes, for example, are every traveller’s nightmare and are the main reason many people are actually afraid of flying, and when they happen, the story is bound to make the news. And that is exactly the case with this story.

At 15.30 on Friday November 18, 2022, a plane crash occurred at the Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima, Peru. As one plane was taking off, a fire truck crashed into the plane, causing the crash. Apparently, all of this was the result of a terrible mistake during a fire drill – the drill, however, didn’t involve the truck driving onto the runway. Unfortunately, the impact was fatal for two firefighters, Angel Torres and Nicolas Santa Gadea, while the rest of the passengers and crew of flight LA2213 were unharmed. One couple even took a selfie after surviving the crash, with the damaged plane in the background: a photo that went around the web and generated much discussion and reflection. Enrique Varsi-Rospigliosi, who we believe to be the man in the photo, posted the image on his Twitter account with the caption:

“When life gives you a second chance”.
